Fuzhou’s Abalone Industry Welcomes a Fresh Wave of Vitality
Fuzhou’s abalone industry is thriving. On June 2, the People’s Daily ran a front-page story titled Fujian Strengthens and Expands Its Marine Economy, spotlighting the abalone industry in Fuzhou along with other key sectors.
Central Media Focuses on the Abalone Industry
According to the People’s Daily, on the “Fubao No. 1” deep-sea farming platform in Lianjiang County, Fuzhou, a simple press of a button raises the farming cages to the surface like an elevator, where the Haliotis fulgens inside waits for its next feeding. The platform is equipped with intelligent equipment, including water quality monitoring and video surveillance systems, allowing fishermen to monitor the conditions of the sea farms in real time from the shore.
Unlike traditional nearshore farming rafts, the “Fubao No. 1” platform operates in deeper waters. Here, the water exchange is more robust, and temperatures are more stable, leading to significant improvements in the quality, size, and survival rate of the abalone. In recent years, Lianjiang County has been actively driving the transformation and upgrading of its marine aquaculture industry. By the end of March this year, the upgrade of traditional farming rafts was completed, with 92.5% of nearshore waters now meeting high-quality standards.
According to the information, Lianjiang has taken an industrialized approach to build a “marine granary,” actively promoting the big food concept. The county has installed 11 gantry-type deep-sea farming platforms, ranking first in the country among counties both in terms of the number deployed and the production output. It has also developed the largest smart marine ranch in China.
Fuzhou’s Culinary Delights Captivate the World
While central media shine a spotlight on the industry, the products are making their way to international markets. With the arrival of summer, the abalone sales and processing season is in full swing. Recently, Fujian Fengyun Holding Co., Ltd., based in the Dongpu Industrial Park of Lianjiang Economic Development Zone, has shifted into “high gear,” working around the clock to ramp up production and fulfill orders.
Recently, the reporter visited the workshop of Fengyun Holding Co., Ltd., where the steps of cleaning, slaughtering, high-temperature blanching, low-temperature cooling, and liquid nitrogen quick freezing were smoothly interconnected. In under an hour, each abalone was quickly “fresh-locked,” ready to be packaged and shipped to major markets both at home and abroad.
“Our production line is currently running at full capacity, with orders lined up for the next two to three months,” said Chen Quan, Marketing Manager at Fengyun Holding Co., Ltd. “Frozen abalone has a much longer shelf life than fresh abalone. To meet the diverse consumer demands of the market, we’ve developed a complete industry chain from breeding to dining table, equipped with fully automated processing lines and a 50,000-ton modern cold storage facility. This allows us to process 5,000 tons of high-quality abalone annually.”
Foryou Holding is a leading player in the abalone industry, covering the entire industry chain from breeding source R&D, seedling production, farming, to food processing, sales, and industry services. With an annual output value exceeding 1 billion yuan, the company has received numerous honors, including “National High-tech Enterprise” and “Provincial Leading Enterprise of Agricultural Industrialization.”
Lianjiang abalone is renowned for its exceptional quality, but with growing market competition, how can its value be elevated to capture a larger market share? One solution is to extend the abalone industry chain through deep processing. To achieve this, Foryou Holding has forged strong collaborations with institutions like Jimei University and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University to drive research and development. They have developed a range of products, including the Golden Soup series, Abalone Sauce series, and Braised Sauce series, while maximizing the preservation of the abalone’s nutritional value and flavor. These abalone products have not only become top sellers in domestic supermarkets but also gained popularity in global markets, including North America, Canada, and Japan.
