Mawei Secures China’s First Clean Cultivation Certification for Shellfish
On June 10, the Mawei District Administration for Market Regulation, together with the Fujian Southeast Standard Certification Center, presented China’s first clean cultivation certification for shellfish products to Fujian Haiheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd. in Mawei.
“Behind this certification lies a rigorous and scientifically grounded standard system,” said Xu Liang, Deputy Director of the Fujian Southeast Standard Certification Center. He explained that the Technical Specifications and Implementation Rules for Clean Cultivation Certification of Shellfish Products, released in March this year, include 42 specific technical requirements that cover the entire process from factory design to seawater treatment. Haiheng Biotechnology met these standards through facility upgrades, process optimization, and the establishment of a comprehensive quality control system.
Zhang Shiyong, Deputy Director of the Mawei District Administration for Market Regulation, highlighted that the clean cultivation certification for shellfish will drive industry upgrades. By transforming into model examples, companies will drive facility upgrades across regional enterprises through a “point-to-area” approach, fostering an industrial cluster effect that will help establish Mawei District as a key hub for clean cultivation. Furthermore, the certification will build consumer confidence, as the “Clean Shellfish” label will make it easy for consumers to identify safe products, solving the challenge of product selection. Additionally, the certification will enhance regulatory efficiency, shifting the inspection model from traditional passive spot checks to proactive prevention and control, ultimately improving food safety oversight.
According to reports, this year, Haiheng Biotechnology has embraced a “three-no” ecological farming approach—no artificial feed, no mixed-species farming, and no artificial intervention. The company has developed an ecological clam farming base spanning over 10,000 mu, with an annual output nearing 20,000 tons, and a 100% compliance rate for drug residue in the clams. Additionally, the company has been at the forefront of technological innovation, incorporating advanced equipment like AI-driven sorting systems to bolster safety measures for their shellfish products.
