On May 22, the reporter learned that the northern species of Pseudocaranx dentex has successfully been trialed and settled in the waters of Sha’ao Bay, Ankai Township, Lianjiang.

Pseudocaranx dentex, also known as the “King Jack,” is a highly regarded fish species prized for its tender flesh and rich nutritional content. It is considered a top-quality ingredient for sashimi and sushi.

“We brought in Pseudocaranx dentex from Dalian in 2022, and back then, each fish weighed about 250 grams. Now, the biggest ones have grown to 4.5 kilograms, and we expect them to sell for around 360 yuan per kilogram,” said fisherman Lu Haibin. “In the past, local fishermen were reluctant to farm Pseudocaranx dentex in Lianjiang because the sea temperature can reach 30°C in summer. They were worried the fish might not survive the heat.”

Lu Haibin shared that the Pseudocaranx dentex he farms has successfully survived three summers without any special protective measures, proving that the species is well-suited for growth in the waters of Lianjiang.
