Nearly 5,000 mu of Oysters from Mabi, Lianjiang Hit the Market
With the summer heat in full swing, it’s once again the perfect time to enjoy oysters. Right now, nearly 5,000 mu of oysters in Mabi Town, Lianjiang, are being harvested, adding variety to local dining tables.
In the offshore farms along the southern coast of Luoyuan Bay, clusters of oysters sway with the tide. On the fishing boats, farmers expertly use cranes to lift the oysters, detach them, and swiftly transport them ashore for sorting and sale.
The oysters farmed in Yujing Village, Mabi Town, mainly use local seedlings, which are known for their high protein content and specific water quality needs. The waters of Luoyuan Bay, with their excellent water quality, abundant sunlight, and plentiful natural feed, create an ideal environment for cultivating high-quality marine products such as oysters.
It is reported that by 2025, the oyster farming area in Mabi Town will cover nearly 5,000 mu, with an expected output of around 17,000 tons. “Oysters from Luoyuan Bay are sweeter, fresher, and have a superior taste compared to those from other regions. On average, we purchase about 10,000 to 15,000 kilograms of oysters a day,” said buyer Zhao Lianjin. The oysters will be sold to markets in Fuzhou, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and beyond.
