Prime Time for Abalone Seedling Release in Luoyuan: Around 1 Billion Seedlings to Be Released This Year

As the weather warmed and sea temperatures gradually rose, Jibi Village in Bili Township, Luoyuan County, recently entered the ideal window for releasing abalone seedlings. Fishermen seized the opportunity to release abalone seedlings, sparking a wave of “spring plowing” at sea.

Before dawn, Jibi Village in Bili Township was already bustling with activity. At the dock, fishermen unloaded abalone seedlings from trucks and passed them in a relay to the waiting fishing boats. On the water, dozens of boats loaded with abalone feed moved quickly between the fish rafts. In the farming area, fishermen placed the abalone seedlings into cages and lowered them into the sea in an intense but orderly manner.

“After we bring back the seedlings, we usually start unloading the trucks around five or six in the morning, then load them onto the boats and transport them to the farming area for release. Releasing the seedlings early in the morning is better for their growth, as it avoids the afternoon heat and reduces seedling loss,” said Zhang Moujin, an abalone farmer from Jibi Village.
