According to the information, Navodon septentrionalis, commonly known as “Horse-Faced Fish” (due to its appearance resembling a horse’s face), or “Wolf Fish” (for its aggressive, wolf-like nature), was once the second most abundant economic fish species in China’s marine fisheries, following only the ribbonfish. Its meat is tender, nutritious, and naturally boneless, making it especially suitable for both the elderly and children.
Recently, near Dongluo Island in Tailu Town, Lianjiang County, workers have been working together to pull up fishing nets and gather the fish fry. They then work in relay, transferring the fry from the live-water transport vessels into gravity-based deep-water cages, creating a bustling scene of “sea farming and fishing.”
“We have already released 200,000 fish fry, and the remaining 1.6 million are expected to be released by the end of April,” said Deng Yongzheng, General Manager of Fujian Offshore Ranch Investment and Development Co., Ltd. He added that the released fish fry will be ready for market by August, with an estimated output value of 11 million yuan.
“The Navodon septentrionalis fry we cultivate has four key advantages: high hatchability, strong survival rates, robust vitality, and rapid growth,” said Zhou Jiarong, General Manager of Fujian Everone Marine Technology Co., Ltd. He further explained that this fish is ideal for those who prefer lighter meals and can support scientific diet habits and weight management.
It’s worth noting that the Lianjiang Navodon septentrionalis deep-sea farming ranch spans 200 mu of sea area, with a total aquaculture volume of approximately 53,000 cubic meters. The facility has recently added 15 circular cages and 440 square cages, enabling it to accommodate up to 2.3 million Navodon septentrionalis at once.
“Next, we will focus on expanding the construction of net cages and supporting infrastructure to further scale up our farming operations, aiming to raise over 9 million Navodon septentrionalis this year,” said Deng Yongzheng. (Fuzhou Evening News Reporter: Zheng Ruiyang; Correspondent: Lian Rongmei)
