Peking University Establishes a Base in Fuzhou to Explore the Culture of Houfu Pork Wonton
Recently, the unveiling ceremony of the Oral History Learning Platform of Peking University (Houfu Village Base) was held at the Fuzhou Pork Wonton Museum in Houfu Village, Qingkou Town, Minhou County.
The Oral History Learning Platform of Peking University is an off-campus practice platform of the Boya Chuanxin Society, aimed at further exploring oral history resources beyond the university. Through this platform, Peking University faculty and students are organized to visit local communities and participate in the excavation of oral history resources, offering new ways for both students and faculty to engage in hands-on oral history learning and practice.
Pork wonton is a cherished culinary symbol of Fuzhou. With a rich history and traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations, Houfu pork wonton is more than just a culinary delight; it embodies the essence of Chinese Fu culture, Taiping culture, Houguan culture, and local folk traditions.
“It’s a great honor to visit Houfu Village and taste the pork wonton,” said Guo Wenjie, a lecturer and postdoctoral research assistant at Peking University’s Department of History. He further expressed his hope that Houfu Village could enhance the brand of Houfu pork wonton and bring it to the Peking University campus.
According to the information, the Oral History Learning Platform of Peking University (Houfu Village Base) will integrate academic research with Houfu Village’s unique local industry—the pork wonton industry. The platform is dedicated to exploring local folk traditions, supporting the preservation and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, and revitalizing the historical documentation and cultural promotion of Houfu Village’s pork wonton-making techniques.
It is reported that in the next phase, Houfu Village will deepen its collaboration with Peking University, Fuzhou Polytechnic, and other institutions across various fields. The goal is to make full use of the student practice base as a platform, further enriching and elevating the legacy of Houfu Village’s pork wonton culture.
