On June 15, the 2025 Cross-Strait (Fuzhou) Fisheries Week and the 17th China (Fuzhou) International Seafood & Fisheries Expo concluded. Over the three-day event, on-site sales reached 350 million yuan, with prospective deals totaling 1.56 billion yuan. The expo attracted 196,000 visitors, making it a resounding success.

The Second-Largest Fisheries Exhibition in the World

Young couples carrying bags of all sizes, food bloggers streaming live on their phones… On the last day of this Fisheries Expo, the locals became shopping enthusiasts, fully embracing their buying spree.

As a devoted fan of the Fisheries Expo, Aunt Chen was there bright and early, eager to shop. Yellow croaker, jellyfish, abalone — her bags were stuffed with a variety of fresh seafood. “The expo offers a variety of tasty seafood from all over the country, some of which is rarely available elsewhere!” she said.

Notably, this Fisheries Expo drew exhibitors and visitors from over 30 countries and regions, with nearly 500 exhibitors in total. For the first time, it has become the second-largest fisheries expo in the world.

Gaining Popularity Both Online and Offline

Popularity means business opportunities. This year, Fujian Xiawei Ocean Ranch Co., Ltd., located in Ningde, made its debut at the Fisheries Expo, showcasing its flagship product, the “Donghai Liangcang Wild Yellow Croaker.” “The turnout at this expo has far exceeded our expectations,” said a staff member of the company.

Many exhibitors have noted that the Fisheries Expo acts like a powerful magnet, attracting buyers and distributors from all over the country. In the networking area, the reporter saw business professionals gathered, discussing products, prices, and more.

The online buzz is just as strong. “We’re live now with plenty of great discounts.” “Welcome, everyone! Just a quick tap to follow us and grab amazing deals.” ... Many exhibitors have turned to live-streaming to boost sales.

“With the expo providing the platform, both online and offline have been in perfect sync! Over the past few days, our online sales have jumped by 20% to 30%,” said Mr. Lin, Marketing Manager at Fuzhou Baiyang Seafood Co., Ltd.

According to statistics, online sales in the Douyin e-commerce section during the expo surpassed 10 million yuan.

It’s worth noting that the expo also featured the “One Festival, Two Sessions” — the Private Domain Buyers Festival, Shopping Mall - Supermarket Matchmaking Session, and Direct Procurement Matchmaking Session for Major Restaurant Brands. Nearly 120 companies secured partnership agreements on the spot, with a total intended transaction volume exceeding 300 million yuan.

The Highest Number of National Pavilions in History

This Fisheries Expo welcomed 10 countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, Iran, Ecuador, Brunei, Russia, Australia, and Canada, each with its own pavilion. This marked a new record for the highest number of national pavilions in the event’s history.

At the Brunei pavilion, exhibitor Ye Jiayu eagerly showcased her signature product—Brunei Blue Shrimp—to prospective buyers. Of Chinese descent, Ye Jiayu’s ancestors hail from Fuzhou, and because of this deep connection, she made the trip to Fuzhou herself to participate in the exhibition.

At the Indonesia pavilion, exhibitor Han Nong eagerly presented her signature product—Indonesian seaweed—to the people of Fuzhou. More than a decade ago, she studied Chinese at Fujian Normal University for two years, and this trip to Fuzhou feels like a homecoming.

It’s worth noting that this year, 13 companies from the China-Indonesia “Two Countries, Twin Parks” project showcased their products at the exhibition. A variety of popular items, including coffee drinks and coconut-based products, drew a great deal of attention from local visitors.

The “Lianma Family Feast” Becomes a Popular Exhibition Area

The Fisheries Expo first introduced the “World’s Fishing Capital · Hai Lianjiang” pavilion. A standout attraction within it is the “Lianma Family Feast” exhibition area, which has quickly become a crowd favorite. The pavilion showcases models of 17 signature dishes from the feast, such as “Huang Yu Zhu Lang” (Yellow Croaker Chasing the Waves), “Zhao Cai Jin Bao” (Fortune-Bringing Abalone), and “Jue Dai Jia Ren” (Exquisite Beauty of the Kelp) offering a glimpse into the unique blend of mountain and sea culinary traditions from both Lianjiang and Matsu.

Matsu Dinghao Specialty Food Store showcased a variety of Matsu’s top delicacies, including Matsu mussels, sorghum-fermented tofu, spicy dried fish, and mussel crisps, offering Fuzhou locals a taste of Matsu’s unique flavors.

It’s worth mentioning that the expo featured the “Cross-Strait Unity” Fujian-Taiwan Fisheries Integrated Development Forum, along with a promotional event showcasing the achievements of fisheries integration between Fujian and Taiwan, creating a collaborative platform for the industries of both regions.

Fuzhou’s Fisheries Industry Leads in Multiple Areas

The Fisheries Week and Expo are a microcosm of Fuzhou’s ambitious efforts to build itself into a “Maritime Fuzhou.”

It is reported that Fuzhou has maintained its position as the top fisheries producer in China for 30 consecutive years, with its aquatic product output ranking second nationwide.

In aquaculture and breeding, Fuzhou is the national leader in kelp and Philippine clam seedling production. The city also dominates in specialty sectors like nori and Haliotis fulgens. Moreover, Fuzhou ranks first in abalone and eel production, and second in kelp output.

In offshore fisheries, Fuzhou ranks first in the province and among the top in the country in terms of overall strength.

In terms of industrial integration, Fuzhou is advancing the development of a complete fish industry chain, with a focus on abalone, kelp, Penaeus vannamei, and eel. The city leads the nation in the production value of fish balls and other surimi-based products, while its grilled eel production ranks number one globally.
