MICHELIN Guide for Fujian Province 2025 Released 21 Fuzhou Restaurants Make the List
On December 3, the MICHELIN Guide for Fujian Province 2025 was released, featuring 69 restaurants from Fuzhou, Xiamen, and Quanzhou. Fuzhou alone has 21 restaurants on the list, including two awarded One MICHELIN Star, 11 with a Bib Gourmand, and eight featured in the Michelin Guide.
“Between mountains and the sea, Fujian and its spectacular geography provide rich natural resources for its talented chefs. This first selection is a tribute to local food heritage and culture, as many restaurants our Inspectors decided to recommend are simple yet memorable eateries, deeply rooted in tradition. They are deeply rooted in tradition, offering diners an unforgettable taste of local flavors. This is just the beginning of the Michelin Guide’s journey in Fujian, and as further exploration unfolds, we look forward to witnessing the continued prosperity of the province's culinary industry.” At the press conference, Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, highlighted the keyword of the guide -- local flavors.
It can be seen from this list that the inspectors highly favor Fujian cuisine. Out of the 21 restaurants in Fuzhou, 16 specialize in Fujian dishes, with Wenru No. 9 in Sanfang Qixiang even being awarded One MICHELIN Star.
Several well-known local eateries in Fuzhou have been included in the Bib Gourmand list. Established in 1997, the Bib Gourmand aims to provide consumers with more affordable options beyond Michelin starred restaurants, making the Michelin Guide more comprehensive. The restaurants featured are often not high-profile, but they offer exceptional value and delicious food.
Throughout Fuzhou, local eateries like Longkushan Eatery, Hou Jie Lao Hua, and Mei Ya Bo Hua Sheng Tang, known for their affordable prices of under 100 yuan per person, have made the list. These popular spots have been a hit with locals for years, and with the release of the guide, they’re likely to draw even more travelers to Fuzhou in pursuit of delicious food.
Fujian cuisine is more than just food; it is a form of cultural heritage and expression.
The winner of this year’s MICHELIN Service Award is from MICHELIN Selected Restaurant Hatter. Mr. Bob LIN was born in Fuzhou. He went abroad to study architectural design in his early years. After returning, he opened this exquisite restaurant. He personally attends to every table as the sommelier, from introducing the ingredients to explaining cooking techniques and sharing the stories behind the dishes. Perhaps it is his passion for food and wine, along with his love for his hometown, that provides him with endless motivation.
Xuanhe Cuisine, a Fujian cuisine restaurant, has been included in the Michelin Guide this year, and its head chef, Lin Shijie, has been nominated for the 2025 Michelin Young Chef Award. Lin Shijie told the reporter that in recent years, numerous young Fujian cuisine brands have focused on the essence of traditional Fujian cuisine while enhancing the refinement and nutritional value of these dishes. By fusion and innovation, they have introduced a modern twist to Fujian cuisine, leading to its growing popularity among food lovers. “I believe that the younger generation of Fujian chefs will take Fujian cuisine to even greater heights,” Lin Shijie said.
In addition to Fujian cuisine, the MICHELIN Guide for Fujian Province 2025 also includes a variety of culinary styles such as Sichuan cuisine, Guangdong cuisine, and French cuisine, reflecting the rich and diverse international dining scene in Fuzhou. In recent years, the Fuzhou municipal government has actively promoted innovation and growth in the local catering industry, striving to build the city into a “City of Gastronomy.” These efforts have driven the integration of multiple industries centered around Fujian cuisine while enhancing the city’s overall development. The release of the Michelin Guide will allow more people to appreciate the unique charm of Fujian cuisine. (Fuzhou Daily Reporter: Wu Huazhen)
