Fuzhou Will Showcase Its Golden Brand at the Osaka Expo
Fujian Province Will Participate for the First Time in the Form of “Fujian Activity Week”
On May 21, at a press conference held by the Information Office of the People’s Government of Fujian Province, it was learned that the “Fujian Week” at the China Pavilion of the Osaka Expo 2025, hosted by the People’s Government of Fujian Province and led by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Fujian Sub-council (CCPlT Fujian), with participation from the Publicity Department of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Provincial Department of Commerce, Fuzhou, Xiamen, and other provincial departments and municipalities with districts will take place from May 30 to June 1, 2025, in the China Pavilion at the Osaka Expo Park. This event represents a significant foreign-related economic and trade activity organized by Fujian Province this year.
In previous Expos, Fujian’s participation was limited to a “Fujian Day.” This marks the first time that Fujian has participated in a “Fujian Week”. Themed “Refreshing Fujian, Innovative Land of Fortune”, the week includes an opening ceremony (including cultural performances), exhibitions and shows, economic and trade matchmaking activities, as well as activities such as Fuzhou Day and Xiamen Day.
The “Fuzhou Day” will be held on May 31, 2025, at the China Pavilion. Through “a ceremony,” “a dialogue,” “a visual feast,” and “a series of exhibitions,” the event will comprehensively showcase Fuzhou’s achievements in ecology, economy, and culture, and promote a high level of opening up to the outside world.
The opening ceremony, blending technology and culture, will begin with the song-and-dance performance of Water-nourished Land of Fortune. It will feature city promotion, interactive exchanges, corporate presentations, and cultural and creative innovation releases, combined with digital interactive technology to convey to the world Fuzhou’s wisdom of prioritizing both ecological civilization and humanistic heritage.
A trade dialogue focusing on industrial matchmaking will center on high-end manufacturing, marine economy, renewable energy, and other sectors. An economic and trade exchange between Fuzhou and Japan will be held to promote technology sharing and project cooperation and foster a batch of industrial collaboration projects.
An immersive visual feast of intangible cultural heritage and arts will include intangible cultural heritage experiences such as Shoushan stone carving, bodiless lacquerware decoration craftsmanship, cork painting production, paper-cutting, Wing Chun Punch performance and interaction, jasmine tea processing techniques, and continuous song-and-dance performances. These will showcase Fuzhou’s rich cultural heritage and open inclusiveness, allowing visitors to experience the charm of Fuzhou’s culture and China-Japan friendship up close.
A series of multidimensional themed exhibitions under the theme “Maritime Fuzhou, Green Banyan City” will present panoramic ecological paintings, cityscapes, digital futures, and achievements in “Global Sustainable Development City” practices through sections like “Ecological Scroll, Lingering Fujian Charm” and “A Shared Heritage, Blossoming Across Two Nations”.
“This ‘Fuzhou Day’ event is an important practical step for Fuzhou to implement the concept of ‘building a community with a shared future for mankind’, as well as a window to showcase the high-quality development achievements of Chinese cities to the world,” said Chao Xu, Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of the CCPIT Fuzhou. The event features four major highlights:
First, centered on green development, the event highlights ecological beauty. Tightly aligned with the Expo theme, it will emphasize Fuzhou’s honors as a “Global Sustainable Development City” and “International Wetland City” through images, videos, and other formats, showcasing practical achievements in ecological protection and sustainable development, as well as international demonstration significance in low-carbon economy and smart cities.
Second, with the cultural heritage being the bond, the event promotes mutual appreciation across civilizations. Focusing on shared China-Japan historical heritage such as Obaku culture and intangible cultural heritage crafts, the event will retell stories of friendship through joint classic music performances, the spread of Buddhist teachings by Master Yinyuan to Japan, the blossoming of Obaku culture in Japan, and the Tsukamoto family’s deep ties with Fujian and Fuzhou. Masters of the national-level intangible cultural heritage Wing Chun Punches from Fuzhou will perform and interact on-site, deepening the cultural roots binding the two neighboring countries and establishing a new benchmark for grassroots friendly exchanges.
Third, following the path of openness and cooperation, the event empowers high-quality development. The Fuzhou delegation will visit Japanese companies in machinery manufacturing, advanced medical care, and senior care sectors, hold economic and trade exchange meetings with relevant chambers of commerce and business associations, and interact with other country pavilions at the Expo. By connecting with Japan and BRI countries, the delegation strives to promote practical cooperation across multiple fields and inject new momentum into Fuzhou’s open economy.
Fourth, by utilizing innovative communication, the event expands international influence. Through trilingual promotional videos, domestic and overseas media coverage, and social media influencer livestreams at the Expo, a full-media matrix will further amplify Fuzhou’s voice to the world, showcasing Fuzhou’s ecological beauty, innovation strength, and open mind.
It is learned that the Japan Osaka Expo will be held from April 13 to October 13, 2025, at the Osaka Expo Park. The theme of this Expo is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, attracting participation from 161 countries and regions and 9 international organizations. (Qian Jiayi, Reporter of Fuzhou Daily)
